GE Sunsmart Digital timer appears to be dead

Bought a GE Sunsmart Digital Timer 15312. Wired it as instructed: black to black, blue to black, white to white (neutral) and green to ground. Red discarded as this is a single pole installation. Only switch to porch light.

The unit is dead. Pushed reset button in for 3 seconds, nothing. Double checked all connections, nothing. Removd and installed old switch, no problems light goes on. Took unit back to Home Depot and got a second unit. Hooked it up: nothing.

Any ideas? Is there a button sequence I'm missing?

Could you have the blue and the black wires connected to the wrong blacks? The black from the timer should be connected to the power feed and be always on, the blue should be connected to the black that goes to the device you're controlling. If you're working inside of an existing box it's very easy to mix up the 2 of them.

a light switch dosent have a neutral wire normally, its just power in and power out. if you look into the back of the box the switch is mounted in do you see two white wires with a wirenut on them? if so these are your neutrals. so its black from new sw. to black from the box. white from the wires that are wirenutted in back of the box(just add the white from the switch to the wirenutted group so there will be 3 wires in that wirenut now.) and blue to black.

ok something just dawned on me did you seperate the white wire from another one if so all 3 have to be tied togeather look at the picture at the top right of the install diagram see #2 where 3 wires are nutted togeather?if that still dosent work swap the wires on the black and blue connections. perhaps you have the line side attached to the load side and vice versa. let me know what happens the suspence is killing me

ok just read the directions more throughly and i see it tells you all that stuff about the neutral wire so now im just gonna say swap the blacks that go to the blue and black on the switch

Msradell...

The wireing diagram showed the black wire connected to the wire coming from the top of the box and the blue wire attached to the wire coming from the botton of the box. It never occurred to me that it could be reversed.

I stand sheepishly grinning... works just fine. Thanks!
