GE sunsmart digital timer to 3 way circuit. Help!

Hi all,

I am trying to install the GE Sunsmart Digital timer. I've read the instructions and tried every possible configuration...that being said, I know nothing about electrical wiring. I do know it's a 3 way circuit. The timer has multi-colored wires. I do think I am correct that the ground is connected to the green and perhaps timer white to white bundle. Beyond that I'm clueless.

Any input would help. I don't know if it is "load side" or not. There is also a separate short black wire that is separate included (I have no idea what that's for...jumper perhaps?)

Your old switch looks like a 4-way switch. I assume this switch is controlling a light.

How many other switches, besides the one pictured, control the same light?

There are 2 others! The other two look like 3 ways (I think). The 1st switch in the series looks like the one below. I tried it first and got the lights to turn on, but then they shut off immediately, as if it short-circuited.

Your thoughts on setting this one up...

You cannot use that timer to replace a 4-way switch.

Thank you again! I finally got it working. I just had to make sure I was using a unipolar switch!! I never would have realized the 4-way I was using was the wrong type. Thanks :thumb up:
