Garage Electrical Idea
Let me know if this is a good idea or not.

I want to be able to add a couple of outlets to the garage but i don't want to tear into the drywall. My idea was to add a surface mount subpanel and run conduit to the outlet locations. Does this violate the electrical code?

What kind of (sub-)panel is out there now?

Surface mounting conduit and outlets is an acceptable wiring method.

We wired my cousins 30' x 50' workshop in this manner. We used a surface mount 200 amp breaker panel with main, ran conduit to all duplex outlet boxes, to all 22ov boxes, all light switches, all proposed light fixtures, and dropped two 220v boxes and one 110v box from the ceiling, all surface mount. After all the conduit was run, and his plywood ceiling was installed, he spray painted all the walls, the ceiling, and all the surface mounted electrical apparatus white. We checked, it was within code. Now everything sort of blends in. Not too bad. Thanks, David
