garage door

My first garage and I love it.

No idea how old the motor is.

Last night hit the remote on the car and the door rose about 3 ft and stopped. I was perplexed. I hit it again to close it and tried again and it opened all the way.

If the door ever stopped working is there a way to open it? Does the motor need any kind of maintenance. Would I call an electrician or find a garage door company?

thanks

The open should have a short rope where the trolley connects to the door. This is the release to free the door from the trolley so it can be opened manually. The first test you should do is release the door and try it manually. It should open with minimal force. If it functions properly then some of the adjustments on the opener might need to be tweeked.

With the door down give that piece of rope with the little handle on it a yank where the door and the middle rail attach. hat will reliece it.
Now try to open and close the door, it should be able to be lifted with one hand. It should also be able to be stoped and place and it will stay in place.
If there's to much resistance the door has a setting causing it to stop.
The springs may need adjusting or the rollers may just need some lub.

If the door ever stopped working is there a way to open it? Just pull the rope where the top of the door connects to the track. Does the motor need any kind of maintenance. Would I call an electrician or find a garage door company?
An over head door company is the one to call.
thanks
