fuse went BANG
My house has old style relaceable Wylex wire fuses but I have had no problems to date (house is 25 years old). However the other day I caused a live-to-earth short when wiring up a new light (when I switched it on). The 5A lighting fuse blew with a VERY loud bang, there was quite a lot of black dust / scorching all over the the fuse holder and part of the fuse holder base was broken off and there appeared to me some melting of the fuse wire holder near the fuse wire.
Is this behaviour normal for a live-earth short ? -it seems excessive to me - if somethings wrong any idea what it could be ?
I'm planning to replace the existing wire fuses with those wylex conversion MCB's that plug into the existing fuse holders - any views on these also appreciated.
Sorry, I posted this to the wrong group pls ignore
