Furnace won't turn on when reached set temp. except when wshich is turnedon manualy

My furnace "forgets" to start when house temp. drops bellow the thermostat settings. I go in the basement and turn off the switch and then back on again and it starts working again. It started about 1 month ago and it only happened about 6 times with the exception of the last 2 days when we constantly have to manually turn off and back on the switch. It works fine until the temp. reaches the thermostats settings, and then again it won't start when temp. drops, except manually. Please help. I'm constantly running in the basement when it gets cold to manually turn on switch. If it's something I can fix myself I sure could save some $. Thank you!

Sounds like the thermostat, thermostat wiring or fan relay. If you are not familiar with checking each one of these items, call an HVAC guy to come out. If you are familiar with checking these items, I am certain you will find your problem easily. Just keep in mind. The thermostat tells the furnace when to come on and when to go off.

You might want to run this one by the folks in the HVAC forum.

The type of heat system and thermostat (manual/electronic) would be helpful also.

Furnace is a Bryant installed in year 2000, builders grade. Thermostat is an electrical/digital Honeywell.

Sounds like a fault is occurring and the power off/on is resetting it. Is there any blinking lights? look in the manual for the code that will tell you what is the problem.
