furnace failure

Why does my oil-fired furnace not come on and I have to push the reset button?

Popping the reset button is usually a sign that the oil has failed to ignite. You may have a partially clogged nozzle, or other ignition problem.

I suggest getting the furnace serviced when this becomes a nuisance problem.

Shirley .. this is a bad time to have the furnace quit on you ... :)

If your getting as much snow as we are here in Kansas a serviceman may be some time getting to you.

Would you happen to have a camera to take some pictures of your furnace? Post them here so we can identify the parts for you?

Several things are possible ... dirty filter and or pump strainer not allowing oil to nozzle, clogged nozzle, and dirty stack control/electric eye sensor. Possible high heat limit switch is bad.

Does the furnace light then die or never lights ?

Does it ignite then shut down?

Not likely but you are full on fuel hopefully...

The other thing do not keep hitting the reset switch all the time otherwise you will have a bit of raw fuel oil on bottom of burner chamber if that the case the best answer is call in furance tech person to come in and deal with this one.

Most common curpit useally clogged filter or clogged nozzle.

Some items you can able do it yourself and some are not.

When you hit the reset button did you hear the flame kick in { you should hear a muted rumble } if no flame then you have other issue some case may have bad ingitor transfomer as well but some case bad photocell as well.

Is the tank indoor or outdoor ? if latter may have issue with ventation or moisture one of the two or both.

Merci.
Marc
