Freeze Protection

When it freezes I would like my pool pump to come on. Currently I have it on a mechanical cycle timer.

Use a thermostat. They make them in line voltage versions that should be able to turn on your pool pump.

Freeze Protection

Try one of these...

It's meant for inline heating duct fans, but I use one in my garage inside the soundproof cabinet I built around my air compressor. When it gets hot inside there, this device kicks on the exhaust fan to pull the heat out. It can also be switched to cold temp settings. It's user adjustable so you'll have to play around with the settings to get it to click on and the temp you want. It will, however, run the entire time the temp goes below your setting so you'd have to monitor it.
