Huh... Interesting that my door bell only intermittently worked when I bought the house. Wonder if it was because the people that remodeled the house sprayed over it when they painted the garage? In any case, I installed a wireless doorbell at this point. Thoughts on eliminating it considering the fact that I have a wireless setup now? Thanks much for the help!

It is most definately a low voltage transformer !
However I cant say for sure what it powers,
most likely a door bell.
The bell could long be gone.

Do you or did you have a door bell ?
Do you or did you have an extention telephone bell ?
What about low voltage lights in garden or on front gate post ?

Had a doorbell, but it only worked intermittently. Installed a wireless unit, works perfect.

Not sure what a extension telephone bell is, but we only have cell phones here anyway.

No low voltage lights, powered by electricity outside are: watering system, 3 front sconces, 2 flood lights in back, pool light, pool pump.

I guess I could unhook it to see if it affects anything and if nothing changes I could just rip it out I guess..

If you are sure you will stay wireless, you can remove it. Just be sure to kill power to that circuit. While the wires in front are 16V ( or possibly 24V) AC, the ones behind are 120V.

If it was mine, I would probably stick a duplex outlet in that spot, with the appropriate round cover plate. I like terminated wires versus capping them off.

If you chose to cap them off, you need a new plate without the hole in it.
