Fluorescent lights in the garage do not all turn on

Have 3, 2-bulb fluorescent light fixtures in the garage, standard stuff.

When I hit the switch, sometimes only a random 1 comes on, sometimes random 2, and sometimes all 3. Eventually, they will all come on at some point.

Does this just mean they need new bulbs? When they are on, they all switch on nice and bright.

Thanks....

High humidity and dirty/dusty bulbs can cause this....

How corroded are the contacts on the "tombstones" (ie the plastic pieces on the end of the fixture that look like tombstones).

It may also be you ballist/ballists
I repair many florescent fixtures that were doing what you mention.
If cleaning or rrplaceing bulbs don't work, replace ballistic. Or it may even cheaper to by new lights.???
Shop around first.

In my basement, I have fixtures with pairs of T12s are probably rapid-start. I had one that would not start consistently, so the easiest thing to try was to replace a tube (I tried the one that was older based on the amount of darkening on the ends) and it fixed the problem.

Dirty contacts, bad ballast, poor or missing ground

How old are the fittings ?
The older type floro fittings that used the larger diameter tubes,
used to run on a slightly lower voltage than the newer type
quick start tubes.
So if it was designed for the older tubes,
the newer tube might not work correcttly,
or possibbly work slower or sluggish.

You might be better off to replace the fittings !
Or find some of the older style tubes.

How was built in 1996.

Changed all six bulbs and everything works great. The tips of the bulbs were corroded. For some reason, i thought it would be more than that, but im glad it was not. Thanks for the suggestions.
