Fluorescent Light sockets

What is the difference between a shunted and non shunted socket?

Shunted is for instant start ballasts. The wires go to both sides of the pins on the tube.

Non shunted is usually for rapid start ballasts. The pins are seperated inside the socket. And wires go to seperate sides.

Non-Shunted

Also becarefull some of the tombstone they are shunted interally from factory they will have " S " marking on them if you have doubt just ring it out with ohmmeter to make sure.

Majorty of new luminaire with electroinic ballast genrally have shunted tombstone if wired up for instat start mode for rapid start mode it will not be shunted.

the quick way you can tell if rapid start or instat start is take out one flourscent bulb if other bulb go out then you have rapid start if not then more likey you have instat start { few case you may ran into bad rapid start ballast will act like instat start due the interal coil inside the ballast is shorted out }

Merci,
Marc
