flourescent lights flickering

I installed 2 sets of 4' flourescent lights in garage. Cheapos from Lowes. It takes 3 flip of switch before they will all (4 bulbs) come on. Is the problem "cheapos from lowes?"

First thing to check...are all the bulbs seated correctly?? Many times that's all it is.

If seating the bulbs doesn't fix the problem, respond with more detailed info.

New bulbs?? Hard wired or plug in? Receptacles or switch old and worn? You say it takes 3 flips...what happens on 1st & 2nd flip? etc.

I wired myself, everytihng new. Plug-in receptacles, one feeding off the first. The first two flips, some bulbs come on but not all, different bulbs everytime.

Cheap ballasts, china crap. If you like the fixture just replace with a good ballast. but what did you expect from "Lowes"? I bought some cheapo plug in lights from HD, 7 bucks I think? I had to replace 1 ballast, but thats it, for 7 bucks they are throw aways and thats fine with me.

Got a case (15) of 96" inch tubes from Lowes a few weeks ago for $30.00. Really a good price as supply wanted $50 and HD wanted $48. Sylvania.
Installed two in a brand new fixture, one bad bulb right off the bat. I am just wondering how many more are bad in this case. Since they are for my own use it will take me awhile to test them all. And you guys know how hard it is to get them back in the case once you pull them out, so testing all of them will not happen.

Try plugging the lights into an ext cord from a different receptacle...eliminate the circuit you're having problems with. Plug one in for a couple seconds to see if it lights properly, unplug it and try the other. If they are still failing, take 'em back to Lowe's and get new ones or a different model. If they don't fail, check your connections at the recept's & switch, etc.
