flourescent fixture suddenly wont work, wall switch?

Hi
Our 4 bulb kitchen flourescent fixture wont work suddenly. I have made sure no wall switches are in the midway position. How do I check if it is the fixture or a wall switch? Could both ballasts go at the same time?
Im not sure if I replace wall switches (3way) or pull the fixture down to check the wires at the fixture?

Thanks

Probably a bad ballast, there are not two ballast in there, it would be just one 4-tube ballast for the entire light

Maybe someone else could weigh in on this suggestion, but I'd turn the power off at the breaker, pull out the switches and use a continuity tester to see if each switch is capable of transmitting current.

could be as simple as a loose wire. check the switch and the fixture terminals.

1 may have gone bad months ago, just went un-noticed till the second one went bad.
Check for power at the fixture, if the lamps have been replaced, it's probably the ballast

Check the lamps first.

i guess you like twisted th bulb's back and forth in the holder ?? sometime's my 2 bulb unit will need that, most likely the ballest smell the ballest or look and see if black crap has bubbled out , like ran down real bad, if it smell like something bunt that it is bad. if this just happen than i would belive balest, if you have a volt meter check for voltage , if you aren't savey with this don't do it. get some one that know's .

It all depends on the manufacture.... just saying anyway.

flourescent fixture suddenly wont work, wall switch?

Wow thanks for all the responses. It is about 7 years old, T12, 40w bulbs x4.
I looked... 2 ballasts. One light had been intermittently going off and on every once and a while. Now the light will turn on, then sometimes the light will shut itself off. Flicking the 3way switch won't help, nor will trying the other switch once it goes off on its own.

Then if someone tries the light again in an hour or so... Sometimes it goes on sometimes not. Replacement ballasts are $25 each, and a similar T8 fixture is $100.

I will replace all 4 bulbs, try new switches then it only makes sense to replace the fixture versus changing out the ballasts above my head on a ladder... Thoughts?

Ballast. I had the same problem with my light in the laundry room. You'd flick the switch, the light would flick on and off (with the switch still on). If you left the switch on it would come on eventually. It worked fine once it was warmed up. I thought it was the switch at first (slow) but it ended up being the ballast. You can get a decent 4 lamp T8 for less than $100.
