fixing old wiring in 40's bulit home with rock lath

I am planning on redoing a lot of wiring ( just had the old insulation containing asbestos removed and found boxes that had been covered over in the attic with bad splices, etc.) and feel I will need to cut into my walls. I did a little work when we first bought the house (added a 20 amp gfci, so my wife could dry her hair, etc.) but am now hoping to fix all the electrical issues we have ( none working lights, outlets, etc.)

From my earlier work I know we have Rock Lath covered with Plaster. So my question is, if I cut to the studs and then nail the pieces of rock lath and plaster back how do I fill in the seams? Also does this sound like it will work? I have done it with drywall, but wasn't sure about Rock Lath.

I have seen much on the web about doing this so any advice from someone who has done it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rock lath and plaster are somewhat thicker than regular drywall, but the techniques of patching are basically the same.
