A few photos of what lurks in my attic

Hey everyone,

Today I hopped into my attic because of an heating issue in the home I am renting and found this up there, I was pretty upset when I found the state of wires and pretty much everything else.

I am living in Canada, on a military base and this is actually the housing agency which provides the military up here.

Do they keep you awake at night with all that gnawing and chewing?
Where's the one that bit that wire? I thought he'd be laying close by

I have heard the gnawing but have never been able to catch the critter in the act, though it does spend a lot of time sleeping up there because the insulation is beaten down in around where the snacking happens.

Here is what sparked the adventure into the attic space, my upstairs is FREEZING in the winter and a SAUNA in the summer...my thoughts were correct too, there is no insulation between the drywall and the roof, in the photo I have the house that has the least amount of snow lol.

I'd buy a fire extinguisher and sleep near the door.
Do you want it your way or the right way?

I am making some noise tomorrow regarding this matter. Being that the housing agency handles its own contractors I am not allowed to bring in an outside inspector to make a professional recommendation. The houses are Federal property in the hands of some under-funded civilian inspectors, I hope to open some eyes so others have better experiences.

Now im not sure about the current wiring code but the living room and downstairs bedroom all run on the same 15amp breaker, there are 2 lighting fixtures and 10 receptacles...but if that wiring is anything like the stuff hiding in the attic than I am worried.

Military base right there speaks volumes. Never knew any homes or barracks on a military installation that was built top quality, until you get into Officer country.

boy he was one lucky little pest, wasnt he? I found a wire almost identical to that in my wall, thats why we are replacing the wiring, and the pest was still attached to the wire, teeth still sunk into the coating, dead as can be.
