Fear of crawl space - structured wiring

I want to run phone, data & coax to several locations. The runs will be in the crawl space which is about 2-3 feet high.

I have not gathered the nerve to get into the crawl space yet. It took me while to get in the attic.

What can I do to help rid my fear of going into the crawl space. I already bought a cover-all.

That depends..... what do you fear? Spiderwebs? Spiders? Mice? Dirt?
I take a big fuzzy dusting stick with me when I have to go down there to brush away cobwebs so I can see what I need to do.

Can you find a friend to come over and keep you company while you are working in the confined space?

What are you affraid of (snakes, spiders, rats)? I'm not too excited about crawl spaces either but i've spent a considerable amount of time in mine and never seen anything. I had a bad rat problem and what i did was put hardware cloth up around the crawlspace and that kept the rats out. I've had the AC guys tell me they see rats all the time but they said they're more scared of you so they run. I think if you just look around you, make some noise and listen, you'll feel more comfortable when you see nothing is there. or throw a rock or something in the diretion you're heading. and carry a big light.

Just dive on in and do what you have to do.

You survived the attic. At least you don’t have to worry about falling through the crawl space.

Good point! If that was a concern, he'd have some REAL worries!

Yeah!
Unless you have Really bad soil - a "sink-hole", or an abandoned
mine-shaft in your crawl space!

Does the crawl space have a sealed floor - concrete?
Light up the crawl space before you crawl down with a couple of these. Hang with a rope and lower them down.

Then lay on the floor above and stick you head down and look around.

It's different when you are contracted to do this work. All you see are $$$ at the end of the job.

I hate spiders........so I take a stick with me to clear a path....I know the spiders are more afraid of me than I of them.....at least that is what I tell myself.

Otherwise, I rather enjoy going down......not often you get to do a job laying down.....and about half the time I have one or more of my kids with me...they think it is neat.

Try playing music......that way you don't hear your own panic screams....

Thank you all for excellent advise.

My fear is mainly reptiles and I am aware reptiles, spiders are more afraid of us. My neighbor has a outdoor cat that is always in my yard, so that makes think there are no rats around.

@Dangermouse, fuzzy brush stick is a good idea.
@oh'mike, getting someone to stick around is a possibility.
@autx790, what is hardware cloth?
@a7ecorsair, floor is dirt. I was thinking of using a bright light in there.

I wouldn't go down there. No one has mentioned "Trolls". Trolls live in crawl spaces along with the scorpions and rattlesnakes and mold and mildew. It's hard to move around down there while wearing a heavy suit of metal armor and toting a shotgun and feather duster. Unless your tools are all magnetic how are you going to get them in there with you?

How about you send the neighbors cat in ahead of you for a few days and let him clear the area?

Well, he SAID he's running phone, data & coax, so it's just that..... right? RIGHT???

Seriously though, I've seen 220v lines just laying on the dirt before.

In Biblical times, they used to tie a long rope around the high priest's leg so that if he screwed up while in the "Holy of Holies" (the temple inner sanctum) and was hit with a lightning bolt, his helpers could drag his dead carcass back out without risking the same fate, themselves.

I guess that's not really all that comforting a thought, is it?
