fans function, on Carrier Furnace/AC


Fan quit working properly. What componet controls this function?

Majorty of the time the item will be called fan relay however be aware as most moden and pretty well modern furances with A/C unit there will be a second relay to run the A/C unit and most case it will change fan speed as well ( useally go higher on cooling side ) but basically most common curpit is start capaitor that will useally prevent get the motour start up.

If you hear a buzzing noise when the motour try to start up then you know useally starting capaitor is shot but turn the power off first then try to turn the fan wheel by hand it should turn over easy without effort if very hard then pretty much the bearing on the motour is done.

Newer furnaces may have electronic control boards and you might need a schematic wiring diagram. Some of these create their own "electricity" which is more efficient than the electricity from the wall plug. Sort of like how 3 phase motors are more efficient.

Anyway older have relays and are on/off. Newer may have variable speeds and electronic control boards.
