Fading lights

I want to find a way to make the lights in my den fade on and off when I flip my switch. I would probably start with something to try it out on (like a lamp) first. I was wondering what would be the simplest way to go about this?

Fading lights

Onset dimmer.

When you touch the dimmer the lights will fade on/off to preset levels.

About $50 I believe.
