ENT (Smurf) feeding a sub in detached garage)
 

HI;

Are there any restrictions on using flex ent "Smurf" as conduit for a portion of my conduit run to the garage? (The smurf would only be used inside the crawl space and would not exit the house)

The run would look like:

Panel with EMT to Crawl space, EMT in crawl space connects to Flex ENT "smurf" which goes to a J-box inside the crawl space that connects to the rigid Grey ENT that is buried to the garage.

The crawl space is a bit hard to work in. I will run emt if it is necessary, but smurf would save me a lot of time.

It will be a 4 wire feed (2hot, 1 neutral, 1 ground) from the panel to the garage, plus 2 ground rods at the garage.

I just can't figure out if there is any reason not to use smurf because it is feeding a sub panel in a detached building.

Take the smurf all the way to the first j-box, then PVC to the garage. Just the way I would do it. Or EMT to the first box. Your call. It cannot be subject to physical damage. If you have access to a code book, look at article 362. You need a ground in any plastic conduit.
