Electrical Shut off but breaker did not trip

I have a situation where I have lost power on a large circuit but the breaker did not trip. What could be causing this? Please help.

The breaker trips to the mid position, so to reset you turn it off then back on again.
What do you mean large circuit?

You could also have a loose or broken connection somewhere in the circuit.

Open hot wire or open neutral .... how about giving us a tad more information ....

What does this circuit control .. lights and receptacles or other ?

Also do what jbfan suggested

Nothing trips the ground!

A little more detail will help.
