electrical service for new house

Hi,

I am running a new service into my house from the meter base. I had a roll of URD 4-4-2 triplex wire that i was going to use to run into my house from the disconnect on the outside of my house. I was told by a friend that URD is not approved to enter a structure from the meter or the service disconnect. I was wondering if this is true and what wire i will need to run to my load center from the disconnect.

I found from one search that i might be possible to run the urd in conduit from the meter to the disconnect and then from there to the load center, but im unsure. Anyone have some advice? It would be greatly appreciated!

Type URD (underground rural distribution)/USE (underground service entrance) cables cannot be used inside a structure, even if in a raceway. Their jacket is not flame-retardant. NEC article 338.10A.

Are you sure what you have is URD or USE cable? Type RHH and RHW have different jackets that would allow their use in a raceway in a structure.

yes it is URD. i got the roll from a friend who got it at home depot for a project he was doing and had some left over. its 200A aluminum triplex. Can i use this cable to go from the meter to my main on the outside of the house, then use something different from there, to my breaker panel?

If it stays outside its fine, but it cannot enter the structure.
