You have an open neutral somewhere.

Hire a competent electrician to fix it.

PLEASE

Speedy Petey!
Your right that is what it is but I've looked and tested everywhere and I can't find it! Last time I hired an electrician he charged my $500.00 and he didn't fix the problem!

If your light has a red and black wire then it tells me you are on a 3 way circuit. Somewhere else in the kitchen check for another switch and switch it.

Hire a different one. You need to repair the open neutral and stop using the ground wire to carry current. That is far to dangerous to do. Please have it fixed.

He is right.

I am not an alarmist but using the ground to carry current can kill someone in many different ways....maybe decades from now. Maybe your kids or a neighbors kids. Can you live with that?
