Electrical Panel Upgrade & Main Water Shut Off

I'm getting the electrical panel in my home upgraded from 100 amp to 200 amp. Of the 6 electricians I've spoken to, only one asked me about the location of my home's main water shut off in relation to the electrical panel. When I asked about the electrical connection between the two, the electrician simply replied that he's been doing upgrades for 30+ years and knows what he's doing.

If there's an electrician who can help me understand how an electrical panel upgrade ties into the main water shut off I'd appreciate the explanation. If there is no connection, I'd appreciate being told that too.

Thanks.

Electrical Panel Upgrade & Main Water Shut Off

If the water pipe feeding the house is metallic it must be used as a grounding electrode and the connection to it made within 5' of where it enters the structure.

Electrical Panel Upgrade & Main Water Shut Off

Under older code cycles you could just ground to a nearby water line. Now it needs to be within 5' of where it enters the building.
