Electrical Panel Expansion

My electrical panel has 2 open slots. However, they are side-by-side in the bottom (horizontal) row. I have been told that you should have 2 open slots next to each other in same column for expansion to a sub-panel, if needed.

Is it against code to leave my box the way it is (2 open slots next to each other in the same row), or do I need to get the unused slots in adjoining positions in the same column?

Thanks again,
- Mike

Electrical Panel Expansion

If you need a subpanel, then you need the open spots to be next to each other.
You can move one breaker above the open spot to the other side of the panel to make room.
If you are not adding anything, you can leave it as is.
