electrical outlets

I am replacing an existing electrical outlet. It is back wired. How do I get the existing wires out of the back of the outlet so I can remove it? :(

Usually with a small flat blade screw driver or by just cutting the wires and stripping them new. I find its just easier to cut the wires and start new.

Dougie, Just above (below?) where the wires are "back-stabbed" into the outlet is a slot. Insert a small screwdriver tip or romex staple (bent into an "L" shape) and that should relieve the pressure and allow the wire to be set free. Like theatretch83, I usually just snip them off and start over. Much easier. pete
