I'm thinking about installing two florescent, surface-mounted lights in my garage on the ceiling. Instead of cutting up the wallboard that is already installed on the ceiling, I was thinking about using the raceway metal channel designed exactly for that use. Both fixtures would tie in to the existing outlet in the ceiling and the two fixtures have a side hole that the wiring would come out of and into the channel. My question is: how do you tie the wiring into the existing outlet in the ceiling when the wiring will be outside of outlet cover (flush to the ceiling)? Do you drill a hole in the wallboard new to the outlet and bring it into the box that way or something else?

There are boxes that mount to the existing outlet and you can run the wiremold out of those. I'll try to find a link in a few minutes.

I would get a box extension like this

and run conduit to the lights.

Where does the wire feed into the fixtures? back or sides?
