Electrical Box screw sizes
I need additional screws for several electrical boxes, some mounting a fixture, some for switches, some for covers. I just want to buy some boxes of machine screws to cover the various sizes of commonly used screws in electrical boxes and fixtures.
I think the threads on the most common screws are 6/32, 8/32 and 10/32. Can anyone confirm that these are the correct sizes for the common electrical screws?
the screw that holds the device on is a 6-32, usually about 1 inch.
on steel boxes, the screw that holds the cover or plaster ring on is an 8-32, fairly short.
ground screws are usually 10-32
trim plate screws are 6-32 but they are painted to match the plates.
Thanks again for the info, I'll be able to wrap up a couple more projects. :-)
