Today 12-23-12 the main breaker kept kicking off, had a guy come out and the moan breaker has burnt into . Now the box is Murry, I did read where Murry had caused problems , had recalls , and don't make Murry anymore . It's cold and Christmas no power, so does anyone know about what I am talking about . thanks !i

Some of the older Murray stuff is junk.

The newer Murray stuf is the same as Siemens, but a cheaper line.

Sounds like you need to call an electrician. I suspect this problem is more than you can fix yourself.

So, to answer your question directly I do know what you are talking about.

With that out of the way, WHAT are you looking for here????
What "guy" did you have come out? Did he not have, or can't get, a replacement breaker? Sound like that is what you need.
This is NOT a DIY repair.

I've had to replace many murray main brakers for the exact reasons you mention. As was mentioned the panel is no longer made and replacing the main may not solve the entire extent of damage. Almost always there is damage to the bus bars due to the fact those murray main breakers are backfed and install directly to the panel bus bars. Your best bet (probably only choice) is a new panel.

And Speedy is correct do not atempt to replace as DIY whether new panel or replacement breaker. You absolutely must get the utility involved to remove power from the meter can and a permit with an inspection from the building codes department.
