Electric Time Switch

I have a model 59396 Woods Multi-Volt Switch, the Clock is 120V. Switch is 240V. the terminals are Two for the timer. one NC One NO and a COM. I don't know what NO is. Can I run the 120V clock off one leg of the 240 and a the COM. or must I run a seperate line. Where do I hook the 2 lines going to the heater.

NO and NC usually refer to normally open and normally closed. Don't know how it is used in this application. It is often used for relay wiring.

NO= normally open
NC= normally closed
COM= common (to the associated NO and NC contacts)


you need to run a 120 volt circuit for the clock and attach the hot to terminal 1 and the neutral to terminal 2.

then, for your 240 volt circuit,

run one of the circuit conductors to the COM terminal. The other circuit conductor will pass straight through without any connections to the timer. Then, along with that passed through circuit conductor, attach a wire to the NO terminal and take both of them to the heater or whatever you are operating.
