Electric receptacle in lamp post and flood light not working

Hello,

Just moved into a house with 3 floodlights and a lamp post in front yard. Each of the floodlights have an electric receptacle on what appears to be a base in the ground. The lamp post also has a receptacle.

Although each of the floodlights and lamp post work, none of the receptacles do.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Electric receptacle in lamp post and flood light not working

Thanks Bondo,

The floodlights and lamp post are on a timer. Any suggestions for figuring what switch or circuit they may be on? I have checked the fuse box to make sure all on, and flipped every switch in the house I can think of.

Gotta be a bad/tripped GFCI protecting the receps either loacated in the panel or in another recep maybe on the back of the house, garage, utility room etc.

If all the breakers look the same with no extra reset buttons on em, then in its a recep somewhere.

Can you follow the wires out of the breaker box and see which one(s) lead outside. The wire that serves the floodlights may give a hint.

If a switch inside controls the floodlights, you may find that the switch in question is associated with a 3 wire cable which may serve the outdoors and you can check if the other hot wire in that cable is hot to serve the outside receptacles.

Maybe the outdoor receptacles were intentionally disconnected by the former owner. Check the outlet boxes outside for loose connections.

Thank you all for your suggestions and guidance.

I have checked the breakers. Only one has a GFCI. Have reset that and made sure all others are on.

I believe the wire runs outside immediately above the breaker box. I looked along the outside of the house to the front and don't see any GFCI receps at all.

The back yard has a pool with surrounding lighting that was probably put in about the same time. I searched all receps in the backyard and see none that are tripped. Tried turning on the breaker that controls the back lamp posts thinking maybe they on same circuit. No luck.

Thanks again. Still open to any suggestions. Wish I knew enough to give you guys more ammunition.

It could be possible that the receptacles were never connected!

Good point JB!

Ya can never never assume anything or overlook the obvious when troubleshooting.
