Electric Meter Socket Base Hub and Compression Fitting
 
Hello,

So I am on the home stretch of my new electric service project. I have 1 length of pipe left the pull and attach wires.

At the top of my meter base, I bought the proper hub and will use that.

Is there anything wrong, per code (my town follows 2008 NEC with no amendments), with having a 2" rigid compression fitting screwed into the hub to connect the riser? The 2" rigid will just be a cut end.

Is this rigid conduit(GRC?) or emt. Usually GRC is threaded directly into the hub.

Yes, it is galvanized rigid. I realize that is how it is usually done, but is there anything wrong, per code, with a compression fitting?

That connector needs to be specifically rain tight. Simple compression fittings no longer meet code.

no longer meets code, which year did it change?

I see in your signature that you answers are based on 2011 NEC.

I believe it was somewhere around '08.

It's been a requirement for many code cycles at least back to 1999 NEC.

Here's 2008

312.1 Scope.
This article covers the installation and construction
specifications of cabinets, cutout boxes, and meter
socket enclosures.

I. Installation
312.2 Damp and Wet Locations.
In damp or wet locations,
surface-type enclosures within the scope of this article
shall be placed or equipped so as to prevent moisture
or water from entering and accumulating within the cabinet
or cutout box, and shall be mounted so there is at least
6-mm (
14-in.) airspace between the enclosure and the wall
or other supporting surface. Enclosures installed in wet locations
shall be weatherproof. For enclosures in wet locations,
raceways or cables entering above the level of uninsulated
live parts shall use fittings listed for wet locations.

Exception: Nonmetallic enclosures shall be permitted to be
installed without the airspace on a concrete, masonry, tile,
or similar surface.
