Electric Cord on Kitchen Garbage Disposal

Buy a new single pole switch.

Kill the power at the breaker panel. Test to make sure the unit does not work.

Remove the cover plate. Back out the 2 screws holding the switch to the box.

Remove the wires from the old switch and transfer to the new switch. Dress the wires and install the switch to the box. Replace cover plate.

Restore power and test.

if the switch for the disposal is in a box with another switch there may be 2 circuits in the box, like for the light over the sink. it would be on a seperate breaker from the disposal so be careful or turn the breaker off that goes to whatever else is in the same box as the switch for the disposal.
