Dual Control ceiling fan and light

I have a single pole ACE brand dual control ceiling fan and light switch that I need help wiring. From the ceiling fan junction box leading to the switch, I have a red, white, and black wire. The dual control has a yellow and red wire coming out of a common hole at the top on the right side and a black and ground wire coming out of a common hole at the top on the left side. I am assuming one side of the dual control box is the fan and the other is the light...but I'm not sure. I have tried just about every combination of color to color, but I cannot get the two to work independently. About the best I can do is control both from the light dimmer. But I cannot seem to make the fan switch work as it is supposed to (high, medium, low). I know I'm missing something but I don't know what. How do I wire this switch?

Have you looked at the directions that came with the switch? They should tell you which wire gets connected to HOT and which to use with the light and fan.

Determine which wire (r//b/w) from the ceiling box is the hot... should be the white.
Connect that wire to the black from the switch.
Lacking instructions, try red to red and see if the fan or the light works and with what section of the switch. Swap the red/yellow at the switch and red/black from the ceiling as necessary. Make sure the fan is set on high with the pull chain.
If things still don't work, you will have to look in the ceiling box to see how things are wired there.

You need to confirm that the wires are separated at the fan. I believe that commonly black will go to black (fan) and red will go to blue(light). Then you just wire according to the switch - Fan wire to black, light wire to red (for my example).

No one ever reads the instructions that comes with anything. Come on, this is what the Internet is for.

It does give some a chance to exercise their psychic powers.

Today, I will try what you suggest. By the way, I have read the instructions but the wire schematic they show is a bit more general than I need. I knew you would put it in specific terms. If what is suggested doesn't work, then I will look at the junction box in the ceiling. I'm not sure what I will need to do up there to make things work...but that's what you are here for!
Stay tuned and thanks.

Not only this but they don't tell you the model or mfg # either...
This is the only thing I can find on Ace Hardware:
