dryer receptacle

I have 10/3 wire going to a four plug receptacle but the dryer we have is a 3 prong (2 slants and an L). Can I change the receptacle using the 2 hots and ground and capping the other ground? Change the wire on the dryer? Any suggestions?

The proper thing to do is to change the cord to a 4 wire cord. You will also need to remove the bond strap on the dryer.

Red, white & black on the terminals under the cover. The green wire goes to the green screw. The existing wire under the green screw gets put under the screw with the white wire.
