Double tapped Grounds and neutrals

Hello, I have been trying to find an answer to this for about three hours now, so I decided to join and ask the question myself.

How do I correct an old panel which has both the neutral and grounds on the same lug? I know this is wrong according to the NEC but I cannot find a correction for it. Please anyone, help me.

What do you mean "on the same lug"? Do you mean there are neutral and ground conductors under the same screw on the neutral/ground bar in the panel? Or do you just mean that the neutrals and grounds are all landed on one neutral/ground bar, but under separate screws? If the latter, this is perfectly normal and not a problem at all. If the former, most panels are listed for two ground or one neutral under each screw. Just turn the main breaker off and re-arrange them appropriately.

If it is your main panel that is where the neutral and ground are suppose to be tied together. But it has to be the MAIN breaker panel that is fed directly from the meter.

If this is an old panel this could have very well have been fine when the panel was installed. Why do you feel the need to "correct" this?
