Doorbell

I Removed a old box that was screwed into my baseboard in my dinning room. It looked to be the original doorbell to the house, I unscrewed it from the wall and cut the wires. Two days later my wife tells me that the doorbell isn't working. Could this old doorbell have been still connected to the new one. And when the wires was cut it broke the circuit.

Chances are very good that the new doorbell uses the old wires and you killed the doorbell by cutting the wires.

It is not common for doorbell components or accessories to be mounted low down on the wall such as on a baseboard.

If you still have the old box keep it. It could save time for someone trying to figure out what you had and what needs to be done on the repair.
