Door not closing properly

Hi Folks,

Need your advice/help. My alarm system shows that my front door isn't closed properly. However, it's closed properly and I'm able to lock it. The circuit on top of the door and frame doesn't come completly in one line. So if I push the door slightly, both magnet come into one line and at that point the alarm system shows that the doors are closed properly. It's a new house and for some reason the home inspector didn't find it!

Can I do something on my own or do I have to seek professional help!!

The magnet is not wired in to anything. If is just a magnet. The reed switch is what is wired.

Unscrew the magnet and move it or shim it as necessary.

I'll take some pictures. Like you mentioned; to unscrew it..I don't see any screw. It's just two metal pieces placed on top of the door and under the frame.

Unscrew the part that is on the frame and put something behind it to space it so it aligns with the magnet.

If all you see is a flush circle on the frame and top of the door then they are probably press in contacts. Proper size hole is drilled and then the contact/magnet is just pushed into place.

If its out of alignement you might be able to carefeully pry out the magnet from the top of the door and relocate it to a new proper sized hole to bring it into alignment with the contact on the frame.

Yes Sammy, it's a flat metal. B/c of that I can't unscrew it. So you are saying that I pull out the flat metal piece from the door and then drill another hole so that the metal piece which is on the door would align with the one on the frame?
