Do I Need a Fixture Box?

I am replacing an old track light. When I took the old one down, I found there was no junction box, just this cable coming out of a wood beam on the wall. Do I need to install a junction box or should I just do it like the old one and stuff all the connectors into the cover that came with the track system? If I need a junction box, how do I install it in a wood beam?

Do I Need a Fixture Box?

If you use an end feed for the track no box is required. Floating(center) feeds require a j box.

I am using a floating center feed. How would I put in a box since it is fed through a wooden beam?
