Well at the panel it is so important as it is at a junction. I hate to have a box with say two sets of multiwire circuits crammed in with no ID. If corresponding sets stayed taped together, or labeled, it would be nice.

So... what did you make on the test?

My understanding is so that it is less likely to accidently disconnect the neutral of the multiwire in error when working in a panel then restoring power and putting 240 volts on the branch circuit. I really think as you do that it is rather redundant.
