Question

distance b/ween buried conduit and water supply pipe

i am currently burying water supply pipe and electrical conduit 3 ft below grade to my upcoming shed. i was wondering if it matters what the distance is between the two? someone told me it has to be at least 6", which is what i barely have and they are side-by-side in parallel.

Better ask the building department what they want.

I don't this is so. I think one has to be above the other and marked by identifying tapes 6" above each supply so if anyone digs the tapes will alert the digger to the lines below. Be safe! Go see you local building inspector. The rules may be different in many states and localities.

does it matter at which depth it is buried, as long as it is deeper than the minimum? i am burying them both at the same depth, for convenience.

In So Cal, the requirement reads, "No water or sewer pipes are allowed in the service trench. A minimum 12 inch horizontal separation of undisturbed soil is required between your service trench and any water, sewer or drain pipe", with "24 inch cover on private property."

Basically this says dig two trenches. Your area may be different.
