Disposal wiring
my disposal is wired by: wire from on/off switch to disposal- cord from disposal to plug. Cord to plug shorted out so I got a new appliance cord(spt-3) ribbed wire, green, and smooth. wire from switch to disposal black and white, wires in disposal black and white. How do I connect?
I replaced the disposal a few years ago no problem. Now when I plug in disposal runs no matter if switch is on or off? Brain struggling
Old cord only had 2 wires looks like in was cut from an old lamp.

You will have to clear up your description. Does the disposal have a cord with a plug on the end which will be plugged into a receptacle?

That is how it was. I have a single pole switch on the cabinet two wire come out white and black they feed into the hole in the disposal, where the white and black disposal wires are, also a wire with a plug(was two prong) to plug into the outlet under the sink is feed into the disposal, this wire had a short.
I bought a new 3 prong appliance cord. When I pulled the old cord off I failed to look at how it was connected, so when I hooked it back up the disposal runs no matter if the switch is off or on. Thanks for your help

Is the outlet hot all the time - it isn't connected to the switch?
If so, the black from the cord would be connected to the white going to the switch. The white from the cord will be connected to the white in the disposal. The black coming back from the switch will be connected to the black in the disposal.

Yes it is hot all the time. I followed those directions and it runs all the time. switch on and off. I tried switch the black wire from the cord and the black wire from the disposal. runs all the time. Could my switch have gone bad?

If you followed my instructions exactly and the disposer runs all the time then the switch is broken and is on all the time.
Pull the switch out and disconnect one wire. That will tell you if the switch is the problem. BTW, when you have the switch out, look and see what color wires are connected to the two screws.
