dishwasher electrical hookup

My dishwasher is hardwired with BX armored cable. The cable has to be disconnected to pull the dw out because the cable is too short. I want to put on a longer cable while the dw is out awaiting parts. Do I need armored cable or can I use Romex? Is there a limit on whip length? If I can put on a 10 foot whip, I can pull the dw out of a tight area to where it is easy to work on.

Install a receptacle on the wall behind the DW using the BX (AC) cable. Install an appliance cord on the DW.
