No, you use a search engine. Google will only return those results, from sites that pay to get them to the top. What ever you are looking for. Most stuff is already for sale through smarthome.com for controlling anying, or monitoring anything you can think of.

Most stuff that you used to see in the old Radioshack catalogs, or through heathkit, can be found, just by searching for what you want. Quite a few sites out there with instructions and such, like I stated before.

sdsester, we still have telephone wiring, but now it is "dryloop" for our UVerse connection. Our main communications is either email or the cellphones. Four years ago, we had digital phone with Comcast, and figured that we were not using it enough, so decided to just start using the cellphones at that point all the time.

If I ever decide to go with some type of phone again, it will be VoIP or digital phone, since POTS is way out of date.

I use Linksys VOIP phones around my house, with a central PBX server. I have an ATA device that connects to my land line through Charter down in my server room in the basement. Works very nicely as a modern intercom system throughout the house also! I have a POE switch in the rack so it powers all the phones throughout the house. I wired them all with cat 5e with the intention that the jacks could all be converted back to a traditional phone line if a future homeowner ever chooses to do so. Though the phone demarc box is still laying on the ground outside as I have never used it.
