Question

Direct-wire a swag lamp?

Hello, I have a swag-style pendant lamp with a heavy fabric cord that I would like to direct-wire to a ceiling box. Can I simply purchase a ceiling canopy kit, secure the cord inside, cut the cord & make the connections? Do I need any special hardware for this? Thanks!

Can you see on the cord what type of wire it is. Pull back the cloth covering on the cord and check for any markings. Let us know what you see.
I am of the opinion you can do this with no concern.
Wire nuts are what you need to connect to the power conductors. Choose any cover that pleases you.
