Of all times for this to break! Our house is going on the market and the photographers are coming today. We have a three-way dimmer switch to our family room. This switch is circular and pops in and out. The popping in and out no longer works and I can't turn the lights on!
The switch is from 1976 and it protrudes out from the wall about 3/4 inch. Can I fix or replace this? I have done minor electrical work.
You should just be able to replace the switch with a new 3-way switch. Pretty straight forward. If you have any issues post some pictures with the switch and wiring. Just note where the wires connected on the old switch and connect the wires to the new switch same as old.
What he said, not hard to do but pay attention to how the old switch is wired, turn off power to that circuit first. That switch is available at home/hardware stores, common item. Surprised it lasted so long, they are not know for longevity.
