I have two lights connected to one wall plate. I would like one light on a dimmer and one on an ordinary switch is this possible on a single wall plate.

Are the lights already wired separately?

Your not going to find a split dimmer rated for a 1000 watts...

what I would do then is make the box a 2 gang, this way you can have the halogen on a single pole switch and the other load on a single pole dimmer... looks like your only choice.

No problem, hope it works out for you. Cutting in a 2gang should not be too much a problem with a little patience.
