dimmer switch

I just moved into a new home and the master bedroom has a ceiling fan and it operates on a remote control. The speeds on the fan work fine with the remote. However the light switch on the remote says it is a dimmer light. I push the light bottom and the light comes on but the light does not and has not dimmed. It is either on or off. Can I fix this problem on my own and easily?

Some remote units can be configured for standard, or CFL bulbs. IF the switch is set for CFL, the dimming circuit is disabled, and it only functions as on or off.

One other possibility is the remove receiver's dimming circuit is fried.

I bought two fans on Craigslist, both Harbor Breeze indor/outdoors (Lowes brand). I can still see the fan listed on the site, but not in the store. Does not include the remote kit, so he had to pay extra for them.

He gave me two receivers and two remotes. One is an older yellowed Kinnard (Kinkade?) brand. The other is unbranded. The one on the site is a Harbor Breeze brand. Mine work, so I assume they're universal to some degree. I can set their channel with 5 dip switches on the back.

Are you sure that this remote was meant for this receiver? I get the feeling they just used a non-matching remote.

Try holding the switch button down until the light begins to dim.
