digital clock blinks

My bedroom is on the corner of the house. A few weeks ago, just before a mild storm all the electric in the house was fine, but my digital clock was blinking.

Today, a bit of thunder and few drops of rain and same thing, my clock was blinking.

Nothing else in the house needed reset.

Could this mean a problem. Electricity scares me so I want to be cautious.

thanks. P.S. my housed is 30 yrs old and I just bought it last yr.

edit, I just realized my clock must be 20 yrs old. Maybe it's the clock?

Does your clock have a battery backup compartment? If so, perhaps the battery is dead (or not even there). If you had a momentary power drop, without a battery backup your digital clock would end up blinking, indicating the time was no longer accurate.

Make sure it's plugged in all the way.

AHA !

Took the 9v battery out and it said, "use by 2001".

I don't have a spare but will buy one soon, meanwhile made sure it was plugged in snuggly.

thank you

That battery must be old! Those things usually expire after 8-10 years.

Or, get an outlet tester at a big box store and test the outlets of the receptacle. If your house is truly 30 years old it may come in handy at some point.

rocketgal, I've seen those testers. Didn't think to buy one and try it. Thanks, that's why I love this site.
