as to being children; attitude is everything in life. If I acted my age I might be accused of being one of the ghosts messing with your clocks.

but, since I don't believe in ghosts, we're down to my theory and some dirty power.

and this has been happening for 15 years? My you have patience.

so, let's get serious.

are you supplied by a public utility company?

have you placed the fast clocks in other rooms and if so, how did they react?

Do you notice any problems or oddities with anything involving electricity?

just to be sure, by digital clocks, you mean the type with LED or LCD display and not the original digital clock that simply had a roll of numbers that spun around like a rolodex (See, I told you I was old. I'm hoping you know what the heck a Rolodex actually is) and there were all of similar type?

have you plugged the clocks into different receptacles in the room? and?

Electronics do fail. DH has a digital clock he's had for 20+ years. In the last 5 years it started adding about 3 minutes a month. He refuses to replace it.

Mother has several wind up clocks.
OK I'll get serious, but you folks will have to wait a month. JUST cleaned out the parent's house today in another sate... and it will be awhile before I'm on the internet back home.
Yes sir, never had it before; I could be older than you.
It is a real live 'modern' clock, and I must say, I've not tried it in another room. Duh, as the kids would say. No other noticable electrical oddities {she says with trepidation...}
Thanks for your patience if you want to wait; I'm curious about power coming in [public; owner wired! not me...]

Are these higher end clocks that sync up to a NTP server by chance? Maybe the problem is with the NTP server.

I'm thinking it's related to a time space continuum issue though. Do you live near a power substation? If yes try to find out it's capacity. If it's over 1.21GW look for some crazy looking guy with a Delorean hanging out near there.

digital clock advances

I once built a digital clock from TTL 74xx chips (this was 30 years ago).
It worked fine, was synchronized to the electric frequency which is very accurate so it worked very well *until* I switched off my old tube radio.
Suddenly the clock had jumped many minutes ahead.
I flipped the switch a few times and the clock was now hours ahead.
Then I understood - the switch was dirty so it caused a series of
contact/no contact transitions. The radio was plugged into the same
circuit that ran the clock, so the series of pulses from the radio's bad
contact caused the clock to see a large number of counts to increment
its time and that is what it did....
I added a filter in the clock and could switch the radio off without the
clock jumping ahead.
You may want to check if there is a particular activity or appliance use
that makes the clock advance.
Just try each switch in the house and check the clock regularly until
you have found the offender.
Then decide if you want to / can plug it into another circuit or try a filter
for your clock.
Success,
Cor.

No NTP servers there. Substation several miles away. I'll be checking to see where the TARDIS landing marks are... Thanks Cor. Gotta get back there and check the other circuits.

hey, I just happened to think about this:

any correlation to the problem and the Large Hadron Collider? After all, they were concerned about creating black holes.
