I am attempting to replace a 3-way (not single pole) dimmer switch and while I'm sure I have the right replacement part, the colors of the wiring on the new switch are a bit different. Below is the type of switch I am replacing/using to replace:
The old switch has four wires in the back, grouped into two pairs - from left to right, it's the green grounding wire paired with a black wire, then a black paired with a red (green, two black, one red). The new switch has (from left to right) a black paired with a red, then a red paired with the green (green, two red, one black).
Since the new switch doesn't match up color wise, should I be replicating the existing wiring using the two red in place of the existing two black, and the single black in place of the existing single red?
